At Webpass, we help residents and businesses by offering blazing fast, simple Internet in urban areas. We do this by creating our own Ethernet network and by making it affordable and reliable. We are a team of highly dedicated individuals who share two things: a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to simplicity.
We’ve come a long way.
It all started with one building in San Francisco. After experiencing success in the San Francisco Bay area, we realized that we could share this service with others and soon launched in San Diego, Miami, Chicago, and Boston.
Webpass was founded in 2003 by Charles Barr with the mission to be a leader in Internet excellence. The user-friendly Internet service has garnered rave reviews, drawing recognition from TechCrunch, SF Gate and Gigaom.
Today, Webpass powers tens of thousands of residential and business customers including Zappos, Foursquare, Wordpress, Mozilla, HBO Films, Oracle Racing, Lyft, and more. Our service allows users to easily and quickly surf the Internet without modems, contracts, or gimmicks. We built Webpass to take the hassle out of Internet, so our customers can enjoy the simplicity of online surfing.

Meet Our Management Team
Charles founded Webpass in 2003 and has over 20 years of product development, network design and implementation experience in the telecommunications industry. Dissatisfied with the operations and products of other Internet Service Providers, he set out on his own, determined to change the negative connotations associated with the Internet. It all started with one building in San Francisco and grew from there. After experiencing success in the San Francisco Bay Area, Charles realized he could bring the concept of simple urban Internet to cities nationwide. Charles has a passion for problem-solving and continues to develop technologies that will positively impact the consumer’s broadband experience. When Charles isn’t at the office he can be found spending time with his wife and three children in San Francisco.
Blake joined Webpass in 2006 and serves as our vice president of technology, leading our software development and network teams. Blake started his career at Webpass building systems used to deploy our Internet and providing technical support to residential customers. Webpass needed a scalable network that could interface with customers and employees and Blake rose to the challenge of building it. Today, Blake continues to drive software development that enables Webpass to run efficient operations. When he isn't building our network you might see him riding the ocean waves as surfing is one of his many passions.
Jake is our Webpass jake-of-all-trades. In 2008, he headed West for a summer job at Webpass and never looked back. As the operations manager Jake oversees the construction and install teams. He is responsible for making sure they have the necessary equipment to deploy our network across all operating markets. Jake also plays a critical role in business development, most importantly, identifying smart business opportunities for Webpass. Jake loves strategically mapping our network, but if he must take a break you can find him on the ice playing hockey.
Brian has served in his current role as controller of Webpass. Since February 2014. As Controller of Webpass, he is responsible for the accounting and finance divisions, which encompasses the company’s financing projections, monthly & annual financial reporting, payroll, and budgeting. Brian has 15 years of experience in corporate accounting and finance roles focusing on operational excellence, cost cutting, and customer service. Brian graduated with a Bachelor’s in Accounting & Finance from Indiana University in 2002. He has an active CPA license with the state of California, and is a member of CAL CPA and the AICPA. In his free time, Brian enjoys playing tennis, working out, and exploring all the Bay Area has to offer.
Jennifer joined Webpass in 2013 and brings 20 years of sales and management experience in the telecommunications industry. As the sales manager, Jennifer leads a team of 20 account executives across 5 Webpass markets. Jennifer is responsible for planning & implementing sales strategies, driving sales growth, leading sales training, increasing revenue, qualifying leads, and building relationships with industry influencers. She has developed a sales process that aligns with both company and customer needs. When Jennifer is not in the office she can be found on her beach cruiser or kayak.
James joined Webpass in 2013 and oversees our software development team. James began his career at Webpass as a software engineer. After spending one year as a software engineer, James was promoted to his current role as software development manager. Prior to joining Webpass, James was a product manager at Shine, Yahoo’s lifestyle portal. If he had to sum up his experience he would say he is a “product manager turned software engineer”. James and his team of full-stack developers concentrate on building enterprise products and software tools that manage the Webpass network both internally and externally. In 1995, this SoCal native migrated north to attend UC Berkeley and decided to call San Francisco home. You might have seen him wandering around the Mission, as he is always on a quest for the perfect burrito.
Katie joined Webpass in 2013 with over 12 years of HR and recruitment experience and was the first member of our HR team. When Katie first joined Webpass she was responsible for employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, payroll, and compliance. Today, Katie is focused on enhancing employee benefits packages, deploying a training and development program, and launching recruiting software to simplify applicant tracking and performance. Katie and her team are the reason Webpass continues to recruit and retain top-notch talent. Katie graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in Sociology and obtained her professional HR Certification (PHR) from the HR Certification Institute. When she isn’t in the office working to make Webpass a great place to work, she can be found cheering on the Packers with her husband and daughter!
Tom joined Webpass in 2012 after spending a number of years in the music and entertainment industry as an audio engineer. At Webpass, Tom is responsible for managing our growing team of network engineers to ensure productivity is kept high and workloads are kept manageable. Tom also provides the entire company with network and equipment technical support. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tom moved to San Francisco in 2005 and earned his computer networking and information technology at City College of San Francisco. In his spare time, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.
Brenton is the help desk manager at Webpass and oversees both help desk and customer service teams. Brenton started his career in 2006 working for his family's telecommunications business as a LAN installer. While working for the family business, Brenton pursued his Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology at the University of Phoenix. With 10 years of IT experience, Brenton focuses on training help desk employees, resolving customer issues, and supporting the Webpass technical team. When Brenton isn’t in the office he is on the kickball field where he met his fiancée. During football season, he is rooting for the San Diego Chargers and playing in the Webpass Fantasy Football league!
