    San Francisco

    Fiber and Network Construction Technician

    Webpass is a standalone business unit within Google Fiber (acquired in Aug. 2016) that leverages point-to-point wireless technologies to deliver high-speed broadband services to residents in apartment and condo buildings, as well as small businesses. Webpass operates in six markets: San Francisco, San Diego, Miami, Chicago, Denver, and Seattle. Webpass is revolutionizing what customers can expect from their Internet Service Provider. We do one thing, and we do it really well.

    Webpass is hiring a Fiber & Network Technician to join our team in San Francisco. Your primary focus will be supporting our fiber installation however the position will perform network construction based on our project needs. Every project is different so our technicians bring a diverse skill set, exercise solid judgement, and collaborate well with our team in order to complete each project in a timely manner, all the while maintaining the highest level of workmanship possible.

    Fiber Installation:
    You will launch, engineer, and build out our Fiber network, including maintenance and integration with our wireless technology. Responsibilities include:
    -Install, repair and test fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, indoor, aerial).
    -Fusion splice cables.
    -Terminate cable utilizing a variety of connectors.
    -Perform testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs and documenting.
    -Read prints and other engineering documentation.
    -Update and mark-up drawings and plans.(Google Earth, Google Maps)
    -Basic knowledge of AutoCad.
    -Assist in preparing packets of paperwork for permit submittals and project deliverables required for rolling out fiber to our commercial and residential buildings.
    -Coordinate paperwork including construction plans, site routes, construction details, and site photographs.
    -Creation of material lists in coordination with our Fiber Project Manager and our Provisioning team.
    Understand local traffic and street permitting regulations for directing traffic during street work.

    Network Construction:
    You will build, troubleshoot, upgrade and maintain our Network. Bringing new buildings onto our network includes:
    -Conduct site surveys.
    -Design cable pathways.
    -Run and terminating CAT6 cables.
    -Install radio mounts and grounding systems.
    -Mount switches and POEs.
    -Point microwave point-to-point radios and testing for service.

    Requirements:
    -Minimum of one year of fiber splicing and network construction experience installing, repairing and testing fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, indoor, aerial).
    -Experience using fusion splicers.
    -Ability to terminate cable utilizing a variety of connectors.
    -Proficient in performing testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs and documenting.
    -1 year of pulling, terminating and testing CAT5/ CAT6 in residential and commercial environments
    -Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches and hubs
    -Recent experience with: Rack and stack work, putting together server racks, Closet work, and Patch panels
    -Exceptional attention to detail.
    -Solid troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
    -Valid driver’s license.
    -Able to work nights and weekend shifts when required.

    Working Conditions:
    -Ability to work in confined spaces.
    -Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Every project is different so our technicians bring a diverse skill set, exercise solid judgement, and collaborate well with our team in order to complete each project in a timely manner, all the while maintaining the highest level of workmanship possible.

    This is a fixed term role

    Network Construction:
    You will build, troubleshoot, upgrade and maintain our network. Bringing new buildings onto our network includes:

    -Run and terminate CAT6 and fiber optic cables.
    -Install radio mounts and grounding systems.
    -Mount switches and POEs.
    -Point microwave point-to-point radios and testing for service.
    -Test and troubleshoot connections for both residential and commercial customers
    -Upgrade existing equipment to serve new properties.

    Requirements:
    -Minimum of one year of fiber splicing and network construction experience installing, repairing and testing fiber and CAT5/CAT6 cable.
    -Experience using fusion splicers.
    -Ability to terminate fiber optic cable utilizing a variety of connectors.
    -1 year of pulling, terminating and testing CAT5/ CAT6 and fiber optics in residential and commercial environments.
    -Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches and hubs
    -Recent experience with: Rack and stack work, putting together server racks, Closet work, and Patch panels

    Network Administrator

    Webpass from Google Fiber is hiring a Network Administrator to join our San Francisco team!

    The Opportunity
    We’re looking for a dynamic Network Administrator to support our growing network and provide tier II / III support to the Webpass network.

    As a member of our Network Operations team, you’ll have the opportunity to play a significant role in maintaining our network.

    This is a fixed-term role.

    The Network

    The Webpass network includes thousands of network devices, from a diverse group of manufacturers, deployed across 7 cities. The network topography changes weekly and our configurations expand accordingly as we add more locations to our hybrid wireless/fiber network.

    The Role:
    -Responding to network incidents and outages in a timely fashion
    -Identifying, logging, tracking and remediating any network deficiencies
    -Improving network monitoring and insight
    -Improving our overall network stability
    -Monitoring and maintaining the network
    -Configuring equipment
    -Providing tier 2/3 support
    -Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization – simply and effectively
    -Providing assistance to other markets and cross-functional teams as needed
    -Participate in on-call response rotation

    What you bring to it:
    -A customer conscious mindset
    -3+ years of switched network experience in a Network Admin or Network Engineer role
    -Strong understanding of switched network implementation and best practices
    -Superior troubleshooting skills across Layers 1, 2 & 3
    -Experience in configuring and troubleshooting OSPF
    -Experience managing & maintaining network services (DNS, DHCP)
    -Experience managing IPv6 (Our network is dual-stacked)

    Denver

    Residential Installer

    Webpass is hiring a Residential Installation Technician to join our team in Denver. The schedule is Tuesday-Saturday. This is a fixed term role.

Using cutting-edge technology, we provide super fast and affordable internet service to apartment buildings, condominiums, and businesses in San Francisco/Oakland, San Diego, Miami, Chicago, Denver, Austin, and Seattle.

    The Role:
    As an Installation Technician at Webpass you will be installing service for our residential customers. This is the icing on the cake – where we see all our hard work building a network come together at the customer’s unit. Our new Techs are always surprised at how excited our customers are when they arrive to install service.

    In our world, there are no appointment windows, we have set appointments. We build our network specifically to deliver Internet, so it is a quick and easy install for both you and our customers. The CAT 6 cable is already in the wall, but you will verify the jack is punched down correctly, make any required cross connects to complete the connection all the way back to the telecom closet, and set up the customer’s router. For most of our customers you are the only Webpasser they ever meet, so we are looking for not just skilled technicians but brand ambassadors.

    What we’re looking for:
    -2+ years of experience installing CAT 6 Ethernet networks in residential and commercial environments preferred
    -Ability to engage with the customer and communicate effectively
    -Able to present self in a professional and positive manner
    -Complete understanding of the physical layer, CAT6, 66 and 110 blocks, patch panels, multimode fiber, etc.
    -Experience with rack and stack work, closet work, putting together server racks, and patch panels
    -Superior troubleshooting skills related to routers, switches and hubs, and streaming devices
    -Excellent time management skills to make set appointment times
    -Valid driver’s license
    -High school diploma or G.E.D
    -Technical school or training a plus

    -Ability to work in tight telecomm closets.
    -Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
